Hero is the story of a criminal transforming and evolving into a good person due to the power of true love. Inspector Shrikant Mathur imprisons Pasha, a nasty criminal. To assure his release from the prison, Pasha hires a hit man named Jackie and asks Jackie (Jackie Shroff) to abduct Shrikant�s daughter Radha (Meenakshi Sheshadri) so that Jackie can negotiate with the authorities for Pasha�s release. Jackie does so. However, he hides his identity from Radha and she starts believing that Jackie has saved her from a notorious gang of dacoits. Radha and Jackie soon fall in love with each other. Jackie gradually changes and decides to take the path of righteousness.

Gowri (Sumanth) is a mechanic at Dhoolpet area. Swetha (Charmi) is a college going student who is the daughter of a media baron Chandra Sekhar (Vizag Prasad). Gowri and Swetha fall in love and it irks Chandra Sekhar. He seeks the help of the leading mafia leader Sarkar (Atul Kulakarni) to separate Gowri and Swetha. The rest of the story is all about how Gowri wins back Swetha with the consent of everybody.
Story of the film is a routine one, but with a difference towards the characterization of hero. The film is about how hero wins over the bad guys and put some sense into their heads with his magnanimous thinking and good deeds. The film ends with typical DDLJ kind of climax.

When the Indian police come to know of this| they assign the case to Inspector Vijay (also Amitabh Bachchan) who is asked to apprehend Jai at any cost. The only problem is that Inspector Vijay is Jai's look-alike| and is not at all a good gambler.
